Cloud Manager (AWS)

Location: Negotiable (Oxford for 2 days per week minimum)

Salary: £90-95k+

The role

Job Purpose

Business Operations – Product Group – A team with focus to realise the following goals …

o Optimised inbound OEM costs aligned with product lifecycles

o Contractual business risk reduction

o Optimised & tracked COGS expenditure

o Develop tools to track product COGS & Business Intelligence models to optimise Product revenues & ROI

o Support engineering & product groups in developing a Central COGS model to support 3rd Party Central Market place pricing / billing / licensing

o Governance frameworks to maintain / reduce spend in line with budget

o Identify financial “hot spots” across the client Business

o Continual operational efficiency improvements

o Cost awareness & tracking

– Realise business efficiency gains through cross functional process & work flow optimisations

The client has a cloud first strategy & as far as possible all services are served from, or are being transitioned to, cloud based architecture. This role has many aspects:

1. Ensure compliance with best practice.

2. Work with the the client Engineering teams to ensure optimal use of its multi-million dollar annual spend across various cloud vendors & technologies

Duties & Responsibilities

o Work with, & advise, business units on the most efficient use of the technology to drive down cost, improve performance & maintain or improve security posture

o Encourage cross company sharing of Cloud based knowledge, Proof of concepts for technologies through good communication & the management of a company forum for the purpose of such knowledge sharing.

o Understand current spending patterns across all lines of business & identify opportunities for savings or efficiencies

o Rightsizing & reserving instances – analysis, recommendations, implementation & subsequent review & adjustment

o Educate & monitor business units on housekeeping activities; retention policies, deletion of unused assets etc

o Work closely with the finance department to ensure costs are billed to the correct entities

o Agree KPIs with the business groups to define the cost versus derived value of use of cloud services

o Monitor & report to business units to ensure accurate reporting & management of use, costs & accountability.

o Produce regular executive level reporting on efficiencies, governance & compliance to facilitate & influence decision making

o Work closely with the Operations team to ensure access to Cloud vendors is appropriately periodically reviewed

o Own & manage the relationships with the various Cloud vendors

o Be responsible for the periodic executive reviews with the cloud vendors

o Manage the discount programs with the various Cloud vendors to ensure best possible cost savings

o Keep abreast of new Cloud technologies & recommend advantages to the client of adopting these technologies

o Understand & communicate recommended best practices from the various Cloud vendors & industry specialists

Qualifications & Experience

o A track record of leadership of engineers, architects & analysts

o Presentation skills at board level

o Demonstrable input to cost reduction or cost efficiencies in large scale cloud infrastructure

o Experience working as an engineer / administrator with a specialism in Amazon Web Services

o Qualified AWS Solutions Architects coupled with hands on experience will have a distinct advantage

o Reporting skills through BI tools, PowerPoint or other platforms is essential

o Broad Cloud technology knowledge with perhaps a deeper technical knowledge in AWS

o Experience working in a technical executive role

o Strong knowledge & experience with cloud computing infrastructure, application development platforms & popular programming languages

o Occasional travel to other offices & vendor conferences
