Anyone who knows Cogs is aware of our love of good food. This week for our Cogs Recommends feature we asked the head of our technology team, Matt Challis, to tell us about one of his favourite lunch spots (and there are many).  Here is what he had to say:

The URL for the new Mark Hix restaurant in Shoreditch says it all really – and that’s precisely what you get. The menu is simple, but for meat lovers it’s glorious. Choose from Woolley Park Farm free-range Chicken or the “Mighty Marbled” sirloin steak. The chicken is served head down and feet up on a specially made board, and the steak comes in various sizes from 250g all the way to a hearty 1kg!

There is also a trio of starters to choose from (which changes daily) and some delicious-sounding deserts such as Ronnie’s Apple Pie with Custard, and Raspberry Rippled Cheesecake. At the time of writing these remain untried!

The Tramshed also does lunchtime takeaways, steak sandwiches, steak or chicken salads, and the same deserts — all at a premium price for a desk lunch but well worth the extra cost, you won’t get a juicy steak sandwich like this from Boots!

The building is a famous Grade-2 listed structure on Rivington Street built originally in 1905 as an electricity generating facility for the Tramway System. Now it’s a large open-plan restaurant with a bar down one side and a mezzanine floor at the back offering private dining.

We can’t ignore the specially commissioned Damien Hirst artwork featuring a cow and a cockerel, it dominates the space but fits in perfectly.

Tramshed is a great addition to Hix’s portfolio of eateries and a welcome addition to the Shoreditch dining scene both at lunch and in the evening. in a nutshell, we highly recommend it.
