The Lovie Awards launched back in 2010 with the aim of acknowledging the unique work of the European Internet community. There is a breadth of amazing content accessible on the internet and the Lovie Awards now covers a wide range of award categories; website, online advertising, internet videos, mobile and apps and social.
Our very own Head of Creative, Jan Pautsch from Cogs Berlin has had the honour being on the judging panel of these prestigious pan-European awards for the past 6 years, so we chat to Jan about what the Lovies means to him and how he selected his finalists:
“As a European Executive Member of the IADAS {International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences} I’m thrilled to have been able participate in the Lovies since the very beginning. It’s been a truly broadening and exciting experience, getting an insight into the most pertinent stories in Europe as well as prevailing trends.
Over the years I’ve seen the Lovies grow from the little sister of the Webbys to the only, truly pan-European awards honouring online excellence. The Lovies developed to a platform of creativity and dedication to making great work.
This year I was giving the take of judging the ‘Mobile & Apps’ category. I evaluated a ballot of entries based on the following criteria: content, structure & navigation, visual design, functionality, interactivity and overall experience. What I observed is, that we have reached an optimum in the design of responsive web-applications – the paradigm of designing for all existing devices leads to a library of uniform design patterns and standards. Therefore it’s getting more and more important to define the distinctive voice and personality of the brand through interaction beyond interface design only. The best entries and perspective winners of the Lovies in the Mobile & Apps category demonstrate exactly this: craftsmanship, quality and attention to subtle branded interaction and content as a differentiating factor in a world of similar people-centered solutions.”
Watch out for announcement of the finalists on the Tuesday 13th September and give your voice to the online public vote for your favourite finalists to take home The People’s Lovie Award in each category.
