Secret Sauce of Success To Progress at Cogs Release 1: Abi and Georgie

What do recruiters do on a daily basis? What does it take to succeed in recruiting? We speak to some Cogs consultants who progressed in their career..…

This year, Cogs is fortunate to witness the professional and personal growth of some of our recruiters around the world.

Recruiting despite its high-rewards is not an industry for everyone or anyone. What does a recruiter do and what does it take to succeed? Hear the truth from these consultants….

Congrats on your promotion this year Abi, Georgie, Loris and Mona! It must have been quite a journey for sure.

Many people wonder a day in the life of a recruiter is like. Whether they are hiring partners or candidates, we get asked this question a lot. But experience will differ across individuals.

So let’s ask Abigail and Georgina if it is hard work, sheer luck or maybe just determination that enabled them to stay on in recruiting?

Let’s chat with these two ladies…

Q: Can you tell me a little about yourself?

Abi: As an introvert, my spare time is packed with books and Spanish lessons. It’s balanced with hiking and trail walks during the weekends.
Georgie: I’m from France originally, and moved to the UK at the age of 14. After Graduating I moved to London to start a career in recruitment. When I’m not busy at work, I enjoy going to the gym, (boxing is my latest obsession!) and exploring the markets and cafes around London with my friends. When I get the chance I love going home to Staffordshire to my family and my pony Domino ?

Q: Tell us your journey at Cogs?

Abi: I joined the business in June 2016 as a Senior Consultant. It has been 2.5 years and it has been a rollercoaster ride. A tight knitted and a highly intelligent team here in Cogs keeps the workday interesting and time pass quickly.
Georgie: I started at Cogs in March 2015 as a consultant on the Client Services team covering everything from Account Management roles, Project management, Production, Social, Content & Strategy. Over the past 2 and a half years I’ve worked with a huge number of candidates and clients in the creative and digital agency space. Earlier this year I was promoted to Senior Consultant. What sets Cogs apart for me is the culture – I’ve got the autonomy to run my desk in the way that I like, I’m trusted and supported, and the team provide great banter and even better taste in music!

Q: Describe your typical work week.

Abi: I start my week catching up with the team on their pipeline status and any troubleshooting that may be necessary for them to be successful. Lunch catch ups, after-work drinks and nonstop chatter and Whatsapp messaging are the norm.
Georgie: Coffee, coffee and more coffee. But all jokes aside, I start my week by touching base with all clients to see what their priorities are and what projects are happening. This structures my week with knowing the most urgent requirements – as I work a dual desk with both freelance and permanent roles being organised and knowing what to prioritise is critical! I also make sure to get out and about and meet prospective candidates and clients and well and keeping in touch with people I’m currently working with. I find maintaining good relationships with everyone is key to what I do.

Q: How do you deal with pressure or stressful situations?

Abi: I’ll usually take a long walk and Bailey’s coffee is becoming a new favourite!
Georgie: Boxing – there is nothing better after a busy day at work than getting into the gym. At work, if I’m dealing with a stressful situation I take the time to sit and have a cup of tea or get outside into the sunshine to let the stress disappear and recharge my mind.

Q: What are your next steps here at Cogs with your new title?

Abi: I’ll be responsible for managing and growing the business here in Singapore and ASEAN.
Georgie: For me, the next challenge will be developing management skills as I would love to be in a position to grow a team around me. I’m also looking at specialising within certain areas in Client Services so I can offer a more tailored service to my clients.

Thanks for sharing ladies. We wish you both a productive last quarter of 2018.

Tune in next week for Loris’s and Mona’s recruiting experience.
