Greetings from Singapore! It’s been over 4 months since I joined the Cogs Agency office in Singapore and time has simply flown by.
I’ve met some incredible people and have had some intriguing conversations about the progress of technology and digital in general, in Singapore and in the region.
Watch this space, is all I have to conclude.
Within this time, I’ve have also had a chance to attend a few exciting tech events and those who know me are aware I am a sucker for those.
A little while back I had my eyes glittering in excitement as I was walking through the exhibition area at Echelon Asia Summit, one of the largest events gathering technology-digital thought-leaders, start-ups and investors under one roof, not just in Singapore, but in the region.
I can sincerely say, there are some incredible ideas and I hope to see those start-ups fast-move forward.
But there was one that caught my attention the most. Well, who wouldn’t notice a poster such this:
I had a very lovely chat with the founders of this wicked emoji-based start-up and when I heard they are launching their merchandise range soon too, I thought I better get promoting them as I know many of you would love to download the app and rock to work with a T-shirt or skateboard with a well-twisted design on it. You’ll thank me later when your friends think you are just too cool!
With the rise of emoji marketing (as we could witness during the World Emoji Day), I wanted to find out more Emo-Emoji. So here are a few questions answered by Le Messie, the Creative Director, giving us a few insights into the business and what makes the crew behind it tick.
Do you remember the first time you used an emoticon?
Not really… Emoticons have taken over our daily messaging space.. I’m thinking hard but can’t remember at all…
What inspired you to come up with emo-emojis?
I felt a gap in the digital sticker market… I wanted to evolve on the current evolution of emojis and emoticons what people call “Digital Stickers.”
I wanted to make Digital Stickers for the influencer crowd that find cute emoticons and digital stickers repulsive. Emo-Emoji is the first to officially provide that solution.
Who are the core members of the team?
Amanda High Priestess, Jamis Simaj, Bicky from The Block and The Jamaican Giant… oh you could possibly consider me #core too…
(Amanda and Le Messie are not new to the start-up world as they were also the the founders of an independent street wear brand “FALSE” that achieved cult status in the States and Europe. Also, as another interesting fact, Le Messie worked with Lupe Fiasco on a Grammy nominated album “The Cool” back in 2008.) – D.H.
What keeps you inspired, moving and shaking on a daily basis?
To create digital emotions that make people laugh, interact and exude joy.
What’s the big plan for you guys?
To not have anyone see us coming… and then take over the whole messaging game… #YOLO

Where and how do you unwind?
I’m one of those guys that take road cycling way to seriously, I ride competitively and do this with other extremely fit men in identical team/club jerseys and I think only real men wear spandex.
