Hong Kong’s position as a hub for digital and creative-related industries is now stronger than ever – offering a wide range of exciting opportunities for locals and overseas talent.
As with all countries in 2017, supply and demand remain an issue with the fast-changing markets requiring brand new positions and unique digital hybrids. The technology industry looks set to continue to boom into 2017 with the tech start-up ecosystem going from strength to strength. Meanwhile, the Government remain highly supportive of new creative enterprises through its CreateHK initiatives meaning creative too, will continue to grow.
The benchmarks set in 2016 remain relatively unchanged as we move into 2017. However, the employment marketplace is changing and diversifying.
Network agencies are competing against small specialist shops for business domestically and smaller independent agencies are thriving, consulting firms are aggressively acquiring agency businesses to diversify their own models and enterprise is transforming and bringing digital skillsets in-house to manage the change. This creates fierce competition for talent and threatens to further widen the pay ranges across core digital disciplines. Hong Kong’s job market will continue to grapple with skill shortages in 2017 as the business landscape evolves.
We talk to our clients and candidates on a daily basis and know that any salary listed on a job spec or on our benchmark is negotiable. There are a number of variables to take into account from skill-set to type and size of the company, number of years’ service, but also on time spent working in Hong Kong and on regional projects.
