Why? Because while Candidate B had deep experience, they were ultimately seen as overqualified. The company was in a rebuilding phase and needed someone who could grow with the business, adapt to evolving systems, and embrace a bit of chaos. They worried Candidate B might feel frustrated in that kind of environment.

Meanwhile, Candidate A may not have hit the “3-year” mark, but they had gained rich, practical skills and showed a genuine excitement for the role. Their potential and attitude made all the difference.
