Scenario –
You’re thinking of changing jobs as you’re not getting challenged and you start looking around. You find a great agency/brand/client and the role seems perfect. 3 interviews laterΒ and you’ve made your mind up. The offer’s been biked over to you and you’ve handed in your notice.
The very next day you are called into the CSD’s office and they bring out all the presents to make you stay: new clients, more money and a promotion. This is where it gets interesting as you start to question your move.
Our advice:
Be extremely wary of staying put and remember why you wanted to leave in the first place.
Make sure you have dates agreed for when things are going to change.
Get everything in writing.
We’re not saying all counter offers fail, but in our experience, most people tend to leave within 12 months of agreeing to stay. And the reasons for this are simple, what was promised by the agency was never delivered.
